Troy, NY---- The Sage Colleges' softball team and a few players are among the national statistical leaders with the release of the first NCAA Division III statistics for softball.
Sage returned from Florida with a strong showing having produced a 4-4 record under the guidance of their new coach, Jamie Brown. As a team, Sage ranks 93rd in stolen bases per game with a 1.25 average, while ranking 105th in win percentage .500. Sage is ranked 129th in ERA with a team ERA of 3.52, while also ranking 144th in batting average (.273). The Gators are also ranked 150th in fielding percentage (0.941), while standing 155th in home runs per game (0.13) and 165th in scoring with a 3.75 runs per game average. Sage is also 178th in doubles per game (0.88) and 184th in team slugging percentage (.319).
Sage's junior pitcher Rachel Smith (Valatie, NY/Ichabod Crane) currently leads the team as she ranks 13th in Division III with her 2.0 shutouts. She is also tied for 128th in wins (2.0) with teammate junior Kelsey Newberg (New Britain, CT/New Britain). Smith is ranked 151st with her 1.0 homeruns and 190th in strikeouts (16.0).
Rookie Karlie Williams (Schenectady, NY/Mohonasen) ranks 38th in hit by pitch average with a 0.25 per game average.
The Gators will have their home opener on Saturday, March 17 as the Wildcats of Cazenovia College visit Robison Field (Troy, NY) for a noon in a non-conference doubleheader. The Gators will be back in action on March 18 hosting Southern Vermont College in a noon non-conference doubleheader at Robison Field.
