Albany, NY –The Sage Colleges’ head men’s soccer coach and assistant director of athletics, Kyle Clancy (Walden, NY) has resigned his position at Sage to pursue a career as the head coach at SUNY-New Paltz. Prior to coming to Sage, Clancy was a member of a coaching staff at SUNY-New Paltz in 2007 and 2008 as an assistant coach.
Clancy, who just completed his sixth season as head coach of Sage’s men’s soccer program owns a career record of 65-39-11, good enough for a .613 career win percentage. The first coach of the men’s soccer team at Sage, Clancy has worked the past seven years at Sage and has also served as assistant athletic director and facility coordinator as well as director of the department’s Annual Gator Golf Classic. Sage went 13-4-3 this past fall while established a school record for most shutouts in a season with 13 after winning the Skyline Conference Championship and collecting an NCAA Tournament bid, the first for the young program.
Sage will conduct a national search for his replacement which will begin immediate replacement.
Director of Athletics and Recreation at Sage, Dani Drews noted of Clancy’s accomplishments at Sage, “We are indebted to Kyle for the blood, sweat and tears he has poured into the Men’s Soccer program and Sage.” Drews continued, “We could not have asked for a better person or coach to lead our new program and are so proud of all that he has accomplished. We’re sad to see him go, but wish him all the best at SUNY-New Paltz.”
Over the course of his six seasons at Sage, Clancy has led the team to six consecutive Skyline Conference Tournament appearances, while the 2012 team captured the Eastern College Athletic Conference Upstate Division III Championship and the 2015 squad won the program’s first Skyline Conference Tournament Championship and the team’s first NCAA Division III Tournament appearance. Named the 2015 Skyline Conference Coach of the Year, Clancy has produced the Skyline Conference Defensive Player of the Year twice, while also boasting a Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week performer as well as a prestigious CoSIDA Academic All-American and 2015 NSCAA Scholar-Athlete honoree.
Prior to coming to Sage, Clancy was a member of a coaching staff at SUNY-New Paltz. While on the staff, he was involved in all phases of the program from recruiting, scouting, game preparation and management. He also assisted with individual player development and practice preparation and evaluation. In 2008, he was named the recipient of the Athletic Director's Award. In addition to his responsibilities at SUNY-New Paltz, Clancy also served as the assistant facility manager.
