Troy, NY – The Sage
Colleges’ women’s lacrosse team was named to the 2013
Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA)
Academic Squad. The IWLCA has recognized 86 schools as
earning IWLCA Division III Academic Squad honors for the 2013
season. Every school with a team GPA of 3.0 or higher earned
Academic Squad honors, including NCAA semifinalist Middlebury
College. Thirteen of the teams that participated in the 2013 NCAA
Championships were named Academic Squads.
Sage’s 2013 team which is coming off the program’s best showing in the young squad’s history, was placed on the team for the first time and is one of four Skyline Conference teams named to the prestigious squad for academic excellence. The Gators had seven student-athletes named to the 2013 Skyline Conference Scholar-Athlete Team, while seven were also named to Sage’s Scholar-Athlete Team.
The 2013 Gators went 4-11 overall and 3-7 in the league to wrap the campaign under the direction of second-year head coach Pete Stapleton. Overall, Sage combined for 95 goals and 31 assists and 126 points, which are all new standards for the program. Additionally, the 2013 squad also racked up 257 ground balls, 118 draws and caused 108 turnovers, all team single-season records as well. The team also ranked in a number of statistical categories as they are ranked in points, scoring offense, scoring defense, caused turnovers, draw controls and win percentage in the national statistics that rank the top 300 performances on the year.
