Albany, NY--- The Sage College Gators hosted the Dolphins of the College of Mt. St. Vincent on Wednesday night in the Kahl Center in a Skyline Conference contest. CMSV came from behind and posted the 84-71 win to improve to 10-14 overall and 8-9 in the league. The loss puts Sage at 10-14 overall and 5-12 in the conference.
Sage honored 2012 senior co-captain Pat Lanoue (Troy, NY/Hoosic Valley Central) in conjunction with Senior Night prior to the contest. Lanoue, a two-year starter for the Gators has made 45 consecutive starts dating back to December of 2010 and now has 496 career points in a Gator uniform. He leads the third-year varsity program with his 96 career three-point baskets. He added eight points on Wednesday night.
CMSV's senior forward Cody Gauvard (Rockaway, NY/St. Edmund's) poured in 18 points off the bench to lead all players, including 10 in the first half.
Sage lead 36-30 at the break, but the Dolphins shot 67.7% from the floor in the second stanza (21-31) and overtook the Gators. Adding to the team's performance on the night was junior guard Shaquille Cunningham (Brooklyn, NY/Nazareth Regional) as he had 17 points with five assists. Junior guard Sean Caputo (Staten Island, NY/Xaverian) added 14 points with four assists and a pair of steals.
Sage's sophomore guard Mason Horne (Albany, NY/La Salle Institute) finished with a team-best 17 points in the contest, while junior forward Matt Farbotko (Rouses Point, NY/Northeastern Clinton) tallied 15 points with eight rebounds. Junior center Ryan Sager (Stuyvesant, NY/Ichabod Crane) connected on six points with seven rebounds and a blocked shot. Sager leads the team with his 25 blocks.
Sage returns to action on February 18 facing Yeshiva University in an 8:30 p.m. Skyline Conference contest that will take place at the College of Mt. St. Vincent. The Dolphins return to action on that same day hosting NYU-Poly at 3 p.m.
