Gators late-game rally falls short as SJC triumphs, 75-64

Albany, NY--- The Sage College's men's basketball team hosted the Golden Eagles of St. Joseph's College on Saturday afternoon in the Kahl Center. The Golden Eagles tallied a 75-64 win to remain perfect in Skyline Conference play. SJC improves to 10-1 overall and 6-0 in the league, while Sage drops to 5-5 overall and 1-3 in the league.

SJC led 38-28 at the half and held a 19 point lead in the second half (66-47, 6:31) before a late-game rally by the Gators saw Sage pull within eight points (69-61) at 1:24. Sage held a commanding edge on the boards with 54 boards to SJC's 31.

SJC's senior guard Trey Black (Bayport, NY/Bayport-Blue Point) finished with 16 points and was 9-11 from the line with three assists, four steals and a block and nearly had a double-double as he had nine rebounds. Senior guard Laurent Oliver (Amityville, NY/St. Anthony's) added 15 points with four assists and three steals, while sophomore forward Eric Klingsberg (Bayside, NY/Holy Cross) added 13 points.

Sage's junior Matt Farbotko (Rouses Point, NY/Northeastern Clinton) connected on a season-high for points and rebounds as he had 16 points with 13 boards. He was 7-11 from the floor and had 10 defensive boards in the outing. Sophomore forward Mason Horne (Albany, NY/La Salle Institute) added 15 points and a career-best 12 rebounds for the Gators. He had 11 of his points in the second half, including a clutch three-pointer to pull the Gators within striking distance down the stretch.

Rookie guard Robert Fuchs (Wesley Chapel, FL/Wesley Chapel) had a career-best eight points off the bench and was 3-3 from the line.

Sage returns to action on January 10 hosting Mt. St. Mary College in the Kahl Center in a 7 p.m. Skyline Conference game. St. Joseph's College is back in action on Sunday, travelling to Yale University for a 4 p.m. match-up on January 8.

On Tuesday, Sage will continue to hold its "Tees-for-Three Contest, sponsored by Recovery Sports Grill. Sage will be handing out free t-shirts for every three-point basket made by Sage's women's and men's basketball teams at home games this season.
