Career efforts propel Sage past Maritime, 79-63

Albany, NY--- The Sage College's men's basketball team hosted the Privateers of Maritime College on Tuesday evening in the Kahl Center. Sage's sophomore forward Mason Horne (Albany, NY/La Salle Institute) poured in a career-high 20 points to help the Gators to the 79-63 win. Sage improves to 7-7 overall and 3-5 in the Skyline Conference. Maritime falls to 2-13 overall and 2-6 in the conference.

Sage held a 39-30 lead at the break after connecting on 58.3% from the floor (14-24), but struggled from three-point range. Horne had 10 points in the first half of play and finished the evening with an 8-12 effort from the floor as the Gators shot 59.6% from the floor overall (31-52).

The Gators had five players finish in double-digit scoring as rookie Michael Gallagher (Schenectady, NY/Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons) also had a career-night with 14 points and nine boards.  Junior center Ryan Sager (Stuyvesant, NY/Ichabod Crane) added 12 points and nine boards, while freshman guard Troy Nwanna (Washington, DC/Mercersburg Academy) added a personal-best 11 points with six rebounds and five assists.

Junior forward Matt Farbotko (Rouses Point, NY/Northeastern Clinton) added 11 points with eight boards to help the team to two wins on its last three contests.

Maritime's senior guard Mike McSloy (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park) connected on a game-high 27 points and hit five three-pointers in the game for the Privateers with seven boards.  Senior forward Sam Porte (Harlem, NY/H.S for Math, Science and Engineering) fell victim to an injury in the opening minutes of the contest and was held to two points and three rebounds.

Sage returns to action on January 19 travelling to the College of Mt. St. Vincent for a 7 p.m. road Skyline Conference game, while Maritime College hosts Farmingdale State that same night in a 7 p.m. Skyline Conference match-up.
