Sage men drop tough one to Purchase in conference play, 65-63

Albany, NY--- The Sage College's men's basketball team hosted Purchase College on Wednesday evening in the Kahl Center in its Skyline Conference home opener. Purchase College escaped with a 65-63 win to remain unbeaten in conference action as they improve to 5-2 overall and 3-0 in the conference. Sage falls to 3-4 overall and 1-2 in the Skyline Conference.

In a tight, hard-fought contest, Purchase held a 32-31 halftime lead and the second half was filled with six ties, including the last at 58-58 at 2:05.  The Panthers sealed the win at 0:02 as junior guard D.J. Smith (Saugus, CA/Saugus) made the second of his two free throws and gave his team a 65-53 lead and the Gator's last-second shot attempt was off the mark as time expired.

Junior guard John Pressley (New York, NY/Manhattan Center) added 17 points, while junior guard Amar Reynolds (Bronx, NY/Thurgood Marshall Academy) netted 16 points. Smith finished with 14 points and was 4-5 from the line, all in the second half.

Sage's senior forward Ian Austin-Michaud (Valatie, NY/Ichabod Crane) led all players with his 20 points and just missed a double-double as he had a team-best nine boards. Senior forward Dalton Austin-Michaud (Valatie, NY/Ichabod Crane) added 15 points and nine boards, while senior Pat Lanoue (Troy, NY/Hoosic Valley Central) and junior center Ryan Sager (Stuyvesant, NY/Ichabod Crane) both tallied 10 points.

Sage returns to action on December 10 travelling to Bard College for a non-conference contest at 4 p.m., while Purchase College travels to Baruch College that same afternoon for a 2 p.m. non-conference tilt.
