Troy, NY – The Sage Colleges' softball team hosted the Dolphins of the College of Mt. St. Vincent in a pair of Skyline Conference games on Saturday. Sage swept the Dolphins taking both games, 7-1. The wins put Sage at 18-15 overall and 8-4 in the Skyline Conference. CMSV drops to 9-23 overall and 2-10 in the conference.

Among the many highlights on the day, Sage's senior pitcher Kelsey Newberg (New Britain, CT/New Britain) added her name to the Sage career pitching record book as she collected her 27th career victory and ties the all-time victory mark with 27 which is also held by Kim Fredenburgh.

In the first game, Sage was paced by the play of rookie pitcher Katie Kovage (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls Central) who not only picked up the win in the circle after a complete game, but added a 2-3 effort at the plate with a double and a run scored. She improves to 7-2 after fanning three batters in seven innings pitcher with just one earned run off two hits.

Taking the loss for the College of Mt. St. Vincent was sophomore Kathleen Davis (Beacon, NY/Beacon) as she yielded six earned runs of 10 hits with six strikeouts and drops to 3-10.

At the plate, Sage's Kelsey Newberg added a pair of RBIs, while going 2-4 at the plate, while junior catcher Trish Gaulin (South Glens Falls, NY/South Glens Falls) added a 2-3 performance.

CMSV's rookies Danielle Kirrane (Bronx, NY/Maria Regina) and Joann Guerra (Bronx, NY/Cardinal Spellman) each had a hit for the action.

In the nightcap, Sage jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning and led 7-0 after two full innings of play. For Sage, sophomore Kristen Beikirch (Brockport, NY/Brockport) connected on a two run home run in the second inning to give her a five on the season, while elevating her season numbers to include a team-best .452 batting average and 20 RBIs.  Rookie Courtney Laughlin (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) also drove in two runs as she was 3-4.

CMSV's Davis collected a solo home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Dolphins on the scoreboard. 

For the Gators, Newberg picked up the win after fanning five batters with just one hit and no runs allowed. She improves to 7-7 on the season. She also holds Sage's career strikeout record and now has 252.

CMSV's rookie Casey Cuccio (Medford, NY/Bellport) took the loss after one inning of work with three earned runs off four hits. She drops to 0-1.
