Newberg honored as ECAC Metro Division III Pitcher of the Week

Centerville, MA – The Sage Colleges' softball team had one of its performers named the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III Metro Pitcher of the Week after also garnering the same award from the Skyline Conference. Senior pitcher and utility performer Kelsey Newberg (New Britain, CT/New Britain) was recognized by the ECAC for her efforts last week as the Gators went 6-0 and improved to 15-13 on the season.

Newberg was named the Pitcher of the Week as she went 2-0 in the circle with a pair of complete game wins and had a 0.0 ERA for the week with 15 K's. She added a .538 batting average as well and had three doubles. Overall on season, she boasts a 5-6 record in the circle with a 3.4 ERA and leads the team with 55 K's. She has 242 career strikeouts to lead the Gator program in career strikeouts. She is moving ever closer to the Gators' career victory mark as she has 25 and is now 2 shy of the mark of 27 set by Kim Fredenburgh.

An accomplished scholar-athlete at Sage, she has been nominated for the 2013 CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-America Softball Team. 

The Gators will be back in action on April 17 hosting RPI in a single non-conference game at 3:30 p.m. at Robison Field at the Neff Athletic Center (Troy, NY).
