Gators sweep Skyline Conference Honors

New York, NY – The Sage Colleges' softball team had three players named to the Skyline Conference Softball Weekly Awards list as  freshman pitcher, Katie Kovage (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls Central) was named the Rookie of the Week, senior pitcher Kelsey Newberg (New Britain, CT/New Britain), and junior short stop Hillary Faas (East Geenbush, NY/Columbia) was named the Player of the Week.

Faas batted .591 for the week with 7 runs scored, added 13 hits, including two doubles and drove in seven runs. She had a .818 slugging percentage and had no errors on defense. She also hit  the game-winning hit in the Gators' 1-0 win over St. Joseph's College and was also instrumental in Sage's other win SJC with a key double-play to get the Gators out of a bases loaded jam. She earned Skyline Conference Player of the Week status for the first time this season after the team went 6-0 on the week. On the season, she leads the team with 19 RBIs and now has 120 career hits, which is No. 3 at Sage and her 28 career doubles is also No. 3 on the Gator career record list.

Newberg was named the league's Co-Pitcher of the Week. She went 2-0 on the week with a pair of complete game wins and had a 0.0 ERA for the week with 15 K's. She added a .538 batting average as well and had three doubles. Overall on season, she boasts a 5-6 record in the circle with a 3.4 ERA and leads the team with 55 K's. She has 242 career strikeouts to lead the Gator program in career strikeouts. She is moving ever closer to the Gators' career victory mark as she has 25 and is now 2 shy of the mark of 27 set by Kim Fredenburgh.

Kovage earned Skyline Rookie honors, marking her third selection for the honor this spring. She went 3-0 last week with a 2.06 ERA and 13 K's along the way. She worked in 17 innings and earned a pair of wins as the Gators swept Cazenovia. She added a .545 average at the plate as well with six RBIs. On the season, she is 6-1 with a team-best 1.89 ERA and has seven complete games with three shutouts. She is also batting .353 on the year with three doubles. 

The Gators will be back in action on April 17 hosting RPI in a single non-conference game at 3:30 p.m. at Robison Field at the Neff Athletic Center (Troy, NY).
