ALBANY, N.Y. – Russell Sage College opened its spring by falling 19-4 to SUNY Farmingdale this afternoon.
The visiting Rams (1-2), the defending Skyline Conference Tournament Champions, got out to leads of 5-0 after the opening quarter and 9-1 at the break of the road victory.
Midfielders Jake McElwee (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Liberty) and Adam Willig (Buffalo, NY/Amherst Central), both grad students, paced the Gators with a goal and an assist each.
Senior defender Joe Johnson (Gansevoort, NY/South Glens Falls), who received an honorable mention for the USILA All-American Team last season, topped all participants with seven ground balls, while the brotherly goalkeeping duo of John Hankel (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane/MCLA), a grad student, and freshman Jordon Hankel (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane) (Loss, 0-1) combined to turn aside 15 SUNY Farmingdale shots.
The Rams received five points or more from four different players this afternoon.
RSC (0-1) begins its campaign with four-straight home games. The Gators are scheduled to host SUNY Plattsburgh on Saturday at noon.
Gator Bites with Papa John's: The spring marks the first with Erich Skelly at the helm of the Gators…He arrived at RSC from Albright College in late January… Attacker Bailey Martin (Syracuse, NY/Onondaga Central), a grad student, and Johnson headline the 19 returning Gators…Johnson received an honorable mention for USILA All-American team and earned first-team All-Empire 8 Conference accolades in 2024, program firsts in both awards… Martin commenced the season as the program's career leader for points (146) and goals (96)…Willig, Johnson, and midfielder Anthony Marrone (Monroe, NJ/Monroe Township), a grad student, were voted co-captains.
