PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – Russell Sage College had 14 different players record at least one point in Saturday's 24-5 non-conference victory at Saint Joseph's University - Long Island. The Gators, now winners of three-straight, led 9-2 after the opening period and 18-2 at the break.
Freshman midfielder Carson Pesce (Monroe, NY/Monroe-Woodbury) and midfielder Jake McElwee (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Liberty), a grad student, topped RSC with six points apiece. Pesce had a goal and five assists, while McElwee tallied four goals and two assists.
Midfielder Anthony Marrone (Monroe, NJ/Monroe Township), a grad student, continued his strong start to the spring with four goals and an assist. He closed the weekend leading the Empire 8 Conference in points (28), goals (26), and goals per-game (3.71).
Senior midfielder Dean Sampson (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) went 12-of-14 in the X, while senior defender Joe Johnson (Gansevoort, NY/South Glens Falls), who received an honorable mention for the USILA All-American Team last season, registered three goals, eight groundballs and two caused turnovers.
Sophomore attacker Carden Stubba topped the Golden Eagles (1-2) with two goals and two assists.
RSC (3-4) hosts Vermont State: Castleton on Wednesday at 4:00 PM.
Gator Bites with Papa John's: The spring marks the first with Erich Skelly at the helm of the Gators…He arrived at RSC from Albright College in late January… Attacker Bailey Martin (Syracuse, NY/Onondaga Central), a grad student, and Johnson headline the 19 returning Gators…Johnson received an honorable mention for USILA All-American team and earned first-team All-Empire 8 Conference accolades in 2024, program firsts in both awards…He netted six goals, 19 groundballs and six caused turnovers in the 3-0 week and finished the afternoon leading the E8 with 45 groundballs and sat second in the Conference with 13 caused turnovers...Martin commenced the season as the program's career leader for points (146) and goals (96)…RSC leads the E8 with 84 goals scored...Marrone tallied 14 goals and an assist to help the Gators go 3-0 this week...He finished the day leading the E8 with 28 points and 26 goals...McElwee chipped in with nine goals and four assists in the trio of triumphs...Freshman goalkeeper Jordon Hankel (Cold Spring NY/Haldane) only permitted nine goals, 4.64 per-game, this week...The rookie totaled 31 saves and registered a .775 save percentage across the three non-conference victories...He tops the E8 with 84 saves and ranks third with 12.00 saves per-games and a .579 save percentage...Midfielder Adam Willig (Buffalo, NY/Amherst Central), a grad student, Johnson, and Marrone were voted co-captains.
