Martin's double-double paces Gators to convincing 80-55 win over SJC

Patchogue, NY –The Sage Colleges' women's basketball team travelled to St. Joseph's College (LI) for a make-up Skyline Conference game. The Gators exploded for a season-best 80 points en route to an 80-55 win over the Golden Eagles. Sage improves to 8-15 overall and 5-8 in the league, while SJC drops to 12-12 and 6-7 in the Skyline.

The Gators held a commanding 41-26 lead at the intermission and never looked back as junior forward Chelsea Martin (Davenport, NY/Jefferson Central) tallied a season-best 19 points. She finished with a double-double as she had 12 rebounds, all defensive on the night after also shooting 7-12 from the floor with five three-point baskets.

Another Gator pouring in a season-best for points was sophomore guard Lea McClain (Schenectady, NY/Mohonasen) as she tallied 17 points. Sophomore guard Megan Bowman (Saranac, NY/Saranac) racked up 13 points, while freshman forward Sara Tironi (Cambridge, NY/Cambridge Central) connected for 11 points as the Gators tallied a combined 10 three point baskets and shot 43.5% from three-point range.  The 10 three-point baskets ranks No. 2 in Sage single-game performances and is the third time on the season Sage has made 10 treys.

Sage returns to action on February 16 when they host the Panthers of SUNY-Old Westbury at 1 p.m. in the team's regular-season finale. Sage is asking fans to wear white as they have planned for a "White Out" in conjunction with the festivities that also include Senior Day activities. The Gators will honor 2012-2013 seniors Kara Hackett (Peru, NY/Peru Central), Carly Vallee (East Greenbush, NY/Catholic Central) and Laurel Jicha (Hannibal, NY/Hannibal).
