Jefferson ties career block mark as Gators triumph, 74-41 over GMC

Rutland, VT –The Sage Colleges' women's basketball team travelled to Green Mountain College in Tuesday night for a non-conference game. The Gators came away with a convincing 74-41 win to improve to 2-5 overall, while the host Eagles drop to 1-5.

Sage held a 37-23 halftime lead and never looked back en route to the team's second straight win. 

Among the many highlights for the Gators was a career record tying performance from sophomore forward Amie Jefferson (Albany, NY/Colonie Central) as she had three blocks in the contest. Jefferson is now tied with Kelly Murphy (1999-2002) with 65 career blocked shots. (1999-2002). Jefferson added had seven rebounds with three points.

Sage's sophomore guard Megan Bowman (Saranac, NY/Saranac) finished with a team-high 16 points, while sophomore Lea McClain (Schenectady, NY/Mohonasen) finished with 12 points. Junior Erica Houle (Latham, NY/Shaker) added 10 points for Sage as they combined for six three-point baskets in the win and shot a blistering 85.7% from the free throw line (6-7).  

Sage's freshman Sara Tironi (Cambridge, NY/ Cambridge Central), the Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week, added nine points and nine rebounds for the Gators.

Sage returns to action on December 6 travelling to Southern Vermont College for a 6:00 p.m. non-conference game.
