New York, NY--Sage's freshman women's basketball player, Sara Tironi (Cambridge, NY/Cambridge Central) was named the Skyline Conference Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week on December 3. The selection comes after three double-digit scoring performances last week, including a pair of 13 point efforts. Against Elmira she had a double-double with 13 points and a personal-best 14 rebounds.
She finished the week with a team-leading 12.0 ppg average, while adding 9.3 rpg and playing 29.0 minutes a game. She also was a perfect 10-10 from the free throw line, while shooting 56.5% from the floor (13-23). Overall on the year, the two-sport Sage student-athlete has a 7.2 ppg and rpg average. She leads Sage on the boards with 43 caroms and is 13-14 from the free throw line as well in four starts.
The Gators return to action on Tuesday, December 4 for a road non-conference game at Green Mountain College. Action commences at 5:30 p.m.
