Wilson shines on Senior Night

Troy, NY--The Sage College's women's volleyball team hosted the Dutchwomen of Union College in the fifth annual Crank for a Cure Match at the Neff Center on Tuesday night. Union collected the 3-0 win (25-15, 25-14, 25-16) to improve to 17-11 on the season. Sage drops to 12-18.

Union's senior outside hitter Eve Richards (Schenectady, NY/Schenectady) finished the night with 15 kills and 12 digs. Among one of her kills in the second set was her 1,500th career kill, becoming just the second player in program history to reach the plateau.

Sophomore Mackenzie Westfall (Suffolk, VA/Nansemond Suffolk Academy) added 22 setting assists for Union, while sophomore defensive specialist Marissa Vollmer (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) added 14 digs.

Prior to the match Sage honored 2011 senior libero Kelsey Wilson (Schenectady, NY/Notre Dame Bishop Gibbons) in conjunction with senior night. Wilson has played in 126 matches and 420 games for the Gators, while making her presence felt both on and off the court.  She racked up 10 digs in the contest and ranks among the top performers on Sage's career record book in both digs and serving aces. She is currently third on the career dig list with 1,591, good enough for 3.78 career digs per set, which is fourth best at Sage.  She has also tallied 114 career serving aces and is poised to move into the Top 10 at Sage.

Rookie Stacey Forte (Bay Shore, NY/Brentwood) added five kills with a pair of aces, while freshman Helen Putriment (Troy, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville) tallied nine digs with three kills for the Gators. Putriment leads the team with 322 kills in 2011, which currently ranks 11th best amongst single-season efforts at Sage.

Sage's sophomore setter Joanie Cooney (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) added 17 setting assists, elevating her season total to 760. Cooney now ranks fourth at Sage with 1,319 career setting assists, while her season total for 2011 is ninth best.
