Gators rack up big numbers at Skyline quad-match

Old Westbury, NY--The Sage College's women's volleyball team split results on Saturday afternoon in a Skyline Conference quad match held at SUNY-Old Westbury. Sage topped the host, Old Westbury, 3-1 (25-19, 19-25, 25-22, 25-21), but fell in the nightcap to Farmingdale State, 3-2 (20-25, 21-25, 25-15, 25-19, 15-12). The Gators now stand at 10-16 overall and 3-3 in the league.

Reining Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week, freshman outside hitter Helen Putriment (Troy, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville) racked up a pair of double-doubles on the day. Against the Old Westbury Panthers, Putriment had 18 kills and 12 digs. She closed the day with another double with her 18 digs and 18 kills, marking her sixth straight double-double.

Freshman middle hitter Stacey Forte (Bay Shore, NY/Brentwood) added nine kills and three blocks against Old Westbury and senior libero, Kelsey Wilson (Schenectady, NY/Notre Dame Bishop Gibbons) racked up 14 digs in the match and now has 1,532 career digs.

Sage's sophomore setter Joanie Cooney (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) added 73 setting assists on the day as she had 33 against Old Westbury and 40 in the five-set loss to Farmingdale. She added 16 digs against OW and 11 digs against FSC. Cooney now has 655 setting assists on the season, elevating her career number to 1,203 which vaulted her from sixth best at Sage to fourth best.

Freshman Jillian Schwab (Fayetteville, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius) added nine kills for the Gators in the FSC contest, while freshman defensive specialist Serena Heard (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) added 14 digs in the same match.

Sage returns to action on October 14 hosting the College of Mount Saint Vincent in the Neff Center in a Skyline Conference match commencing at 7 p.m.
