Gators drop heartbreaker to Dolphins, 3-2

Troy, NY--The Sage College's women's volleyball team hosted the Dolphins of the College of Mt. Saint Vincent on Friday evening in the Neff Center in a Skyline Conference match. Sage led 2-0, but fell 3-2 as the Dolphins rallied for the key conference win (14-25, 23-25, 25-18, 27-25, 15-13). CMSV improves to 9-15 overall and 3-5 in the Skyline Conference, while Sage falls to 10-17 overall and 3-4 in the league.

For the Dolphins, senior libero Renee Reynes (Bronx, NY/Aquinas) racked up a team-best 33 digs, while senior outside hitter Maureen Metzner (Mineola, NY/Mineola) added 28 digs . Sophomore Morgane Booker (East Providence, RI/East Providence) led the CMSV with her 13 kills and added four solo blocks.

Reining Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week, freshman outside hitter Helen Putriment (Troy, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville) racked up a team-high 21 kills, but had only six digs on the night, snapping her streak of consecutive double-doubles at six.  Freshman middle hitter Stacey Forte (Bay Shore, NY/Brentwood) added 10 kills and six digs.

Sage's sophomore setter Joanie Cooney (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) added 43 setting assists on the night with 12 digs and three kills. She now 687 setting assists this season, which stands is tenth best for a season performance. Overall on her career, she has 1,246 which is fourth best on Sage's career list.  

Sage's senior libero, Kelsey Wilson (Schenectady, NY/Notre Dame Bishop Gibbons) racked up 24 digs in the match and now has 1,568 career digs and ranks third all-time for the Gators.
