ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY – Peter Fabrykiewicz (Delancey, NY/Andes) played the hero in Sage's 2-1 win over Bard in their first loss of the season Wednesday night.
Sage's (3-2-1, 0-0 Skyline) Mu'Ammar Camara (New Haven, CT/Eli Whitney) made the first shot of the game in the 7th minute, but it was saved by Bard (3-1-1, 0-0 Liberty) keeper Daniel Gagne.
A minute later, Sean Lanza (Poughkeepsie, NY/Spackenkill) looked like he was going to score off a Paul Reynoso (Fulton, NY/G. Ray Bodley), but Gagne came up with another save.
The Gators continued on the offensive where they got off five goals in ten minutes, including a high head ball from Kyle LeClerc (Beacon, NY/Beacon).
Fabrykiewicz finally broke the scoreless draw in the 18th minute off a low cross from Reynoso to put the Gators up 1-0.
Bard's Keshav P. Schlosser let off the first shot for the Raptors in the 22nd minute, but TJ Zehner (Beacon, NY/Beacon) came up with his first save of the game.
Just as it looked like Bard was getting momentum, Fabrykiewicz struck again off a cross from Alex Lanza (Poughkeepsie, NY/Spackenkill) to put the Gators up 2-0 in the 28th minute.
Bard went into the lock room at halftime with the momentum as they got off four shots before the end of the half.
The Falcons continued to go at the Gator defense in the second half as Brendan Byrne capitalized on a Sage turnover in the 62nd minute to make the score 2-1.
Both teams continued to battle for the last 28 minutes, but the final score remained 2-1.
Zehner (3-2-1) was awarded the win with four saves while Gagne (3-1-1) took the loss with five saves.
Sage opens up Skyline Conference play on Saturday as the Gators travel to St. Joseph's (Long Island). Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
