Gators win 2-0 in home opener

ALBANY – Freshmen River Seybolt and James Lagunas each scored in Sage's 2-0 home opening victory over SUNY-Canton.

Sage (2-1-1, 0-0 Skyline) came out early with four corner kicks in the first five minutes before Seybolt chipped Canton's (0-4) keeper off a cross from Peter Fabrykiewicz in the seventh minute.

With the Gators up 1-0, Canton's first chance came off a shot from Jules Ngadula that went wide to the left in the 12th minute.

Sage responded over the next 20 minutes with six shots, including three off the heads off Luis Teran, Alex Lanza and Kyle LeClerc.

In the 35th, the Gators were given a direct kick from the right corner of the penalty box. Lagunas buried a shot in the bottom left corner to go up 2-0.

Sage almost went up 3-0 in the 38th minute off a header from Joe Diano off a Mu'Ammar Camara corner, but Diano's effort missed just wide right.

Canton's best chance of the game came in the 53rd minute off a shot from Angelo Vecchio off a corner, but the freshman's effort was denied by the goal post.

Sage's Anthony Williamson tried to add a third goal for the Gators, but hit the ball just wide.

The defensive unit of LeClerc, Andrew Bartoah, Christian Pinti, Paul Reynoso and keeper TJ Zehner recorded their second shutout of the season.

Zehner finished the contest with three saves while Austin Lamay ended with eight saves.

The Gators are set to play Potsdam St. tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. at ACP.
