SCHENECTADY, NY -- TJ Zehner denied seven RPI shots, but it wouldn't be enough as Sage fell to RPI 3-0 in the Union College Classic.
RPI's Nathaniel Gunderson found the back of the net off a pass from Brett Pyser to put RPI up 1-0 in the ninth minute.
Sage's first spark of offense came in the 25th minute off a shot from Alex Lanza, but it was blocked out of bounds for a Gator corner. James Lagunas was able to find Elhadj Kourouma on the Sage corner, but Kourouma's shot went wide.
RPI responded four minutes later with a goal by Matt Carberry to go up 2-0.
In the second half, Sage went on the offensive when Luis Teran hit a shot in the 74th minute that was rejected out of bounds by RPI keeper Ryan Nealon. The Gators tried to build off the momentum on a shot from Mu'Ammar Camara off a corner, but Nealon denied the senior his goal of the season.
The Gators kept fighting for a win up the end, but RPI would prevail with a 2-0 win.
Sage is set to play SUNY-Canton on Fri., Sept. 11 at 2:00 p.m. at ACP for their home opener.
