Adams, MA--- The Sage Colleges' softball team travelled to Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts on Thursday afternoon for a non-conference pair. The Gators tallied a pair of wins taking the first game 12-1 and the nightcap, 11-1. The Gators improve to 22-13 on the season, while the Trailblazers drop to 4-25.

Sage's sophomore short stop Hillary Faas (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) drove in four runs and added a double as she was 2-4 at the plate. Faas started the day tied for the No. 1 spot for most at-bats in a season and by day's end had taken over Sage's record with her 120 at bats, breaking the 2001 record set by Melissa Roy (112). Faas racked up six RBIs on the day with two doubles and a home run in the Gators' two wins.

 

Game # 1 Sage 12-1 MCLA

Faas was 3-4 win the action with a double and two RBIs as the Gators exploded for five runs in the top of the seventh to blow open the action. Rookie outfielder Samantha Woitkoski (Troy, NY/Lansingburgh) added a 3-5 effort with two RBI's and a double as well for the Gators.

Rookie infielder Kristen Beikirch (Brockport, NY/Brockport) broke Sage's single-season hit record as she was 3-5 with an RBI in the game. She broke the 1999 record of 49 hits set by Melissa Roy as she tacked on her 52nd hits of the year.

Senior Tiffany Bezio (Whitehall, NY/Whitehall) drove in a pair of runs and doubled as well as Sage had a 17-hit performance in the game.

Collecting the win for Sage was junior pitcher Kelsey Newberg (New Britain, CT/New Britain) as she worked four innings with one unearned run off five hits. She improves to 12-7 on the year and is now No. 2 on the single-season victory list at Sage behind Maria DeNovio's 13 win in 2002.

Game # 2  Sage 11-1 MCLA (5 Innings)

Junior Rachel Smith (Valatie, NY/Ichabod Crane) drove in a pair of runs and earned the win after a five inning effort win which she scattered two hits and struck out nine. She improves to 10-6 on the year, while adding her record 36th run scored of the season.

Faas was 2-4 in the nightcap with 4 RBIs and connected on her third home run of the year, a solo shot in the fourth to give the Gators a 7-1 lead.

Sage returns to action on April 21 hosting Farmingdale State College in an 11:00 a.m. Skyline Conference doubleheader. Prior to the action, the Gators will honor 2012 senior Meghan Welcome (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) in conjunction with Senior Day. Welcome is continuing her own assault on Sage's career record book and could become the all-time career games played leader on Saturday in conjunction with the Gators' home Skyline Conference finale.
