Men's volleyball squad posts record setting 15th win on opening day of Endicott Invitational

Beverly, MA-- The Sage Colleges' men's volleyball team opened play on Saturday afternoon in the Endicott College Men's Volleyball Invitational. Sage faced Johnson & Wales and SUNY-New Paltz on Saturday and went 1-1. Sage stands at 15-6 on the season.

The tournament wraps on Sunday with the Gators facing Hilbert College and Stevenson University in matches at noon and 2 p.m.

In the first match of the afternoon, Sage topped Johnson & Wales, 3-2 (18-25, 25-22, 25-18, 19-25, 15-13) to break Sage's single-season win mark of 14, set last season after the team went 14-12. The Gators then dropped a 3-0 decision to the Hawks of SUNY-New Paltz (18-25, 18-25, 7-25).

Against Johnson and Wales, junior Spencer Hilland (Slingerlands, NY/Bethlehem Central) recorded 17 kills on the afternoon and added 11 digs with seven block assists.  Junior setter Kyle Ray (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) handed out 46 setting assists.

Against New Paltz, Hilland finished with seven kills, while sophomore Scott Fitzgerald (Hudson Falls, NY/Queensbury) added six digs with an ace. Ray tallied 18 setting assists to elevate his season to 700. Ray already holds the Gator career setting assist mark, with 1,411.
