Millington cited as women's cross country Gator of the Year

Albany, NY –The Sage College's department of athletics gathered to recognize and honor the outstanding performances of the 2014-2015 year with the naming of the athletic award winners for the 15 varsity athletic teams. In addition to awarding the Gator Award, for the Most Outstanding Player, the department also named the 2014-2015 Female and Male Athletes of the Year as well as the Dean Sharon Robinson Senior Male and Female Scholar-Athletes of the Year, which is given to the senior student-athlete with the highest overall grade point average.

The Sage Colleges' women's cross country team member, junior Amanda Millington (Chestertown, NY/North Warren Central) has been chosen as the 2014 Gator of the Year. A top performer throughout the 2014 season, among the many highlights of the year was she was part of the squad's third place team finish at the 2014 Skyline Conference Championship and placed 15th in a time of 22:35.21.

She was the team's top finisher at the SUNY-IT Wildcat Invitational taking 17th place, while finishing second overall at the Purchase Invitational in 21:51.41. She also helped the Gators as she was seventh at the Green Mountain Invitational as Sage finished as the runner-up in the team race.

Head coach Jim Bowles said of Millington, "Her results are totally based upon hard work and the willingness to listen and do what is needed in the off-season. Bowles added, "She has the third fastest time in school history in the in the 5K and next year should be even better for her."

A Skyline Conference Scholar-Athlete, she was part of the 2014 team that was also recognized by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division III Scholar Teams of the Year for the 2014 cross country season.  The Sage Gators are led by Coach combined this past fall for a 3.41 grade-point-average to earn a repeat selection to the listing. Millington is also a Sage Scholar-Athlete and also honored at the banquet with a selection to the Sage Athletic Honor Society.
