Albany, NY---The Sage Colleges' women's soccer team hosted the Panthers of SUNY-Old Westbury on Saturday afternoon in a Skyline Conference contest. SUNY-Old Westbury collected a 4-2 win in the match to improve to 4-7 overall and 1-1 in the Skyline Conference, while Sage drops to 2-6 overall and 2-1 in the league.
After playing to a scoreless first half, Old Westbury jumped out to a 3-0 lead. Junior JoAnna Kettell (Hauppauge, NY/Hauppauge) converted the cross from sophomore Anna Noens (Selden, NY/Centereach) at the 56:53 mark. The Panthers tallied a second goal at 59:12 when sophomore forward Stephanie Maybie (Massapequa, NY/Plainedge) had a break away and collected her first of two goals on the afternoon. Junior Jasmine Kerby (Floral Park, NY/St. Mary's) put OW up 3-0 with her goal at 61:56.
The Gators made it exciting as sophomore midfielder Gianna Sergovich (Watervliet, NY/Catholic) converted a penalty kick goal after a foul in the box. The goal for Sage came at 65:18. Sage continued to apply pressure and pulled within one goal as freshman midfielder Kelsey Woron (Baltimore, MD/Chesapeake) converted the cross from rookie Nicole Maher (Glen Cover, NY/Saint Dominic) at the 75:26 mark.
The Gators had a handful of chances to tie the action and were snuffed out by the Panthers' sophomore goalie Caitlin Thomas (Patchogue, NY/Patchogue-Medford) who made some key saves under pressure.
OW snuffed the Gators' hopes as Maybie tallied her second goal of the afternoon and gave her team a 4-2 lead.
Sage's sophomore keeper Teagan Waddingham (Coeymans Hollow, NY/Ravena Coeymans-Selkirk) finished with six saves in the action, while OW's Thomas had five in earning the win.
The Gators return to action on October 3 hosting Purchase College in a 7 p.m. Skyline Conference contest which will be held at RPI's Renwyck Field.
