Alfred, NY---The Sage Colleges' women's soccer team wrapped up competition on Sunday afternoon at the Alfred University Saxon Invitational. The Wildcats of SUNY-IT collected the win as they posted the 5-2 victory over the Gators and stand at 1-1, while Sage falls to 0-2.
SUNY-IT jumped out to a 2-0 lead a pair of goals from Stephanie Wurz at the 4:03 and 5:44 marks. The Gators clawed right back into the action as freshman Nicole Maher (Glen Cove, NY/Saint Dominic) added her second goal of the season at 7:29. Junior Danielle Kitsock (Claverack, NY/Hudson) tied the action as she scored her second goal in as many contests with her tally at 10:30.
The Wildcats regained the lead with a pair of goals before the half and added a final goal late in the action.
Sage's sophomore goalie Teagan Waddingham (Coeymans Hollow, NY/Ravena Coeymans Selkirk) played the full 90 minutes for Sage, making five saves, and Aubrey Campbell made three saves, going the full 90 minutes for SUNY-IT.
Maher and senior Rachel Wampler (Carlisle, PA/Carlise Area) were both named to the all-tournament team for their excellent play at the tournament.
Sage returns to action on Wednesday, September 5 at Bard College for a 7 p.m. non-conference contest.
