Sage women successful on opening night, Gators beat Albertus Magnus, 69-46

Albany, NY — The Sage Colleges' women's basketball team opened the 2019-2020 season on Tuesday evening hosting the Falcons of Albertus Magnus College in Kahl Gym in a non-conference contest that was the season opener for both teams. Sophomore guard Sammy Pasinella (Troy, NY/Mechanicville) scored a team high 15 points and senior guard Kaitlyn Bowman (Chateaugay, NY/Saranac) pulled down a team best 11 rebounds in a 69-46 win over Albertus Magnus at Kahl Gym Tuesday night. Sage, 12-13 last season, is 1-0 while the Falcons, 23-4 last season, stand 0-1.

Junior forward Madasyn Bush (Pottersville, NY/North Warren Central) scored 13 points with eight rebounds for the hosts and senior guard Gessica Patregnani (Troy, NY/Lansingburgh) added 15 points and made seven of eight free throw attempts. Sage dominated on the boards, outrebounding Albertus Magnus, 52-37, while also forcing 17 turnovers. Sage shot 39% and held the Falcons to 32% shooting for the night. With her scoring efforts on Tuesday night, Patregnani scored her 500th career point and now has 501 career points as a Gator with 109 three-pointers. She ranks fith in career three-pointers in 78 games played.

Guard Katherin Raposo (Warwick, RI/Pilgrim) led the Falcons with a game high 24 points and also had three steals. Junior center Andreah Orr (Danbury, CT/Danbury) scored eight points while the Falcons got a game high 12 rebounds from freshman forward Beatriz Honorio (Bridgeport, CT/Kolb Cathedral).

The Gators led 18-10 after the first quarter and doubled up the Falcons, 16-8 in the second quarter for a 34-18 lead. The Gators scored 20 points in the fourth quarter.

Bowman, who sat out last year while working on her academics and is now a graduate student, has 713 career points, putting her at No. 17 on the all-time scoring list, while her 589 rebounds is sixth all-time. She has started 80 of 83 games played at Sage and is also climbing the games played list as well as she is currently tied for 16th in appearances.  

Sage is back in action on November 15-16 travelling to Virginia to participate in the Marymount University Tip-off Tournament. Sage will face Ferrum College on Friday at 5 p.m. Albertus Magnus is back in action on November 14 at Farmingdale State in a 7 p.m. contest.
