Gators fall at Skidmore Invitational

Saratoga Springs, NY—The Sage Colleges' women's volleyball team travelled to Skidmore College to participate in the Thoroughbreds' Invitational. Skidmore collected a 3-0 win over Sage in the first match (25-16,25-9,25-12) and Lasell triumphed, 3-1 in the second match with the Gators (25-21,25-21,19-25,25-15). Sage is now 4-16 this season.

Against Skidmore, sophomore tri-captain Emma Parkington (Dalton, MA/Wahconah Regional) racked up three kills with three digs and was a perfect 13-0 in receiving attempts.  Senior outside hitter Megan Ryder (Broadalbin, NY/Broadalbin Perth) connected for four digs with one kills, while graduate player Miranda Nethaway (Fonda, NY/Fonda Fultonville) added two kills. Rookie defensive specialist Elaina Moisidis (Albany, NY/Albany) picked up five digs and added an ace for the Gators. Senior Desiree Suits (Nelliston, NY/Fort Plain) had four digs with an ace and a kill and was 13-2 in receiving attempts for a .867 receiving percentage in the contest.

Against Lasell, junior setter Courtney Formosa (Waterford, NY/Waterford-Halfmoon) racked up three aces with three digs and a kill for the Gators.

Senior middle hitter Skylar Van Alstyne (Castleton, NY/Maple Hill) had five kills and a pair of digs, while junior right side Renee Martin (Troy, NY/Troy) compiled five kills and a 5-0 in receiving attempts with a block assist.

Parkington led Sage with her 11.5 points having had three aces with eight kills and added 17 digs. Ryder added four kills and was a perfect 7-0 in receiving attempts with two digs and a block assist.

Nethaway is closing in on her 500th career kill as she boasts 491 and is currently 16th all-time on the Gator career kill list. She also has 216 career total blocks at Sage, which is fifth best as well.

Senior outside hitter Gabby Rowell (Morrisonville, NY/Beekmantown) is approaching her 400th career kill as well as she now has 397 in her time at Sage.

Sage is back in action on October 8 travelling to MCLA for a 6 p.m. road match with the Trailblazers.
