Leesburg, Florida–Sage's softball team continued their spring training trip with a pair of games on Sunday and racked up a pair of wins beating John Jay College, 12-2 in five innings and Alverno College, 8-0 also in five innings. Sage stands at 3-3 on the season and will be off until Tuesday.
Sage scored four runs in the top of the first and never looked back as they cruised to a season-high 12 runs scored in the contest. Sophomore Kate Keeley (Waterbury, CT/Sacred Heart) drove in three runs and added a 2/3 performance at the plate. Sage's senior Kristen Silk (Freehold, NY/Greenville) added another stolen base while scoring three runs in the game. Sophomore Taylor Dicranian (Bennington, VT/Mt. Anthony Union) also added a double for the Gators as they racked up 12 hits on the day.
Rookie Makayla Lindsey (New Fairfield, CT/New Fairfield) started in the circle but was replaced by senior captain Alicia Swavely (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy). Swavely worked 4.2 innings in relief and allowed five hits with only 1 unearned runs with a pair of strikeouts and is now 2-1.
In the second game, Sage held a 2-0 lead after four innings and exploded for six runs in the bottom of the fifth to wrap up the shutout win.
Rookie Katelyn Rice (Albany, NY/Colonie Central) drove in two runs and was 1 for 3 with a pair of runs scored. Junior Ashley Pulcher (Stuyvesant, NY/Ichabod Crane) added a double for the Gators, while junior Katerina Lagace (Newington, CT/Newington) drove in two runs with a run scored after going 1-for 3 at the plate.
She helped herself after working a complete game and a shutout as she held Alverno to just seven hits with eight strikeouts and a pair of walks. She stands at 1-2 on the year.
Sage is back in action on Tuesday taking on Pitt-Greensburg at 4 p.m. and Bates at 6:15 p.m. in Florida.
