SAGE'S WOMEN'S TENNIS EXTENDS WIN STREAK TO 7 AS GATORS BEAT UTICA, 8-1

Utica, NY—The Sage Colleges' women's tennis team picked up the team's seventh straight win on Sunday afternoon as they made a visit to Utica College for an Empire 8 match with the Pioneers. Sage beat Utica 8-1 for the team's third win in three outings in Empire 8 play. Sage is now 9-1 overall and 3-0 in the Empire 8.

Sage led 3-0 after the doubles paced by the play of seniors Abbey Clobridge (West Sand Lake, NY/Averill Park) and Sadie Dunne (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) as they beat their opponent, 8-1.

In singles play, Clobridge was a 6-2, 6-2 winner at the No. 1 spot over Madeline McInlay. The win puts Clobridge at 6-4 in singles with a 3-0 mark in the Empire 8. Dunne added 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles and is now 7-2 in singles play and also 3-0 in the league.

Sophomore Kaitlin Banks (Annapolis, MD/Mt. Anthony Union) was also victorious for Sage in singles and doubles and is another of the Sage performers that is also perfect in league action.

Sage's head coach Tom Fashouer is in sixth season as the women's tennis coach. This coming week, he is looking to tie a mark he set in 2017 with the team after they captured 10 wins, marking his personal best showing with the team.  The 10 wins, which ties the program's mark for the most wins in a season.  The 2008 teams set the record for most wins in a season after going 10-5 with a 7-2 record in the Skyline Conference. Sages 2017 Gators tied the record for most women's tennis wins in a season (10) which was set by the 2008 Gators that went 10-5 overall and 7-2 in the Skyline Conference.

Sage is back in action on October 5 facing the Golden Flyers in Empire 8 play in a 1 p.m. match.
