Albany, NY–Sage's men's volleyball team hosted the No. 14 ranked Cardinals of St. John Fisher College in the team's 2020 United Volleyball Conference home opener. SJFC posted the 3-0 win (25-17, 25-12, 25-18) to move to 12-2 overall and 1-1 in the league. Sage drops to 4-12 overall and 0-3 in the league.
Leading the way for Sage was senior middle hitter Shane Wenz (Valatie, NY/Ichabod Crane) as he had eight kills with a .313 attack percentage. He added four digs with a solo block and finished the match with 10.0 points.
Senior middle hitter Scott Sanders (Los Angeles, CA/Taft) collected three kills with two aces, a pair of block assists with a dig. Senior captain Jarod Martel (Albany, NY/Colonie Central) added three kills with four digs and a block assist.
Junior setter Ryan Jennings (North Brunswick, NJ/North Brunswick Township) added 13 setting assists with four digs and an ace. Sophomore opposite Deshawn Fleary (Newark, NJ/Immaculate Conception Montclair) had 3digs for Sage with a block assist.
Sage's 2020 team members are continuing their climb in the program's career record book. Sanders is now seventh in career kills with 459 kills, while also stand fourth in block assists with 112. He is sixth with 144 career total blocks, while ranking eighth in career points with 590.0 points.
Wenz stands fifth in career kills with 590 and is also fifth in points with 765.0. He is third in solo blocks (52), third in block assists (146) and third in total blocks (198), while also now ranking 10th with his 313 digs. Jennings is second with his 1,508 career setting assists.
Sage will be in action on February 28 hosting Nazareth College at 7 p.m. in a UVC and Empire 8 match in Kahl Gym.
