PURCHASE, N.Y. – Russell Sage College Women's Tennis won a close one on Friday evening at SUNY Purchase, taking down the Panthers 4-3.
The Gators (2-1) won the doubles point for the match before getting wins in number one, two, and three singles to secure the victory.
Freshman Marian Aguirre (Plano, TX/Plano), who was selected the Empire 8 Conference Player of the Week for the period ending Sunday, September 8, claimed the win in number one singles as well as in number two doubles with her partner, freshman Olivia Monaco (Campbell Hall, NY/Washingtonville).
Emma Nuzzi (Glenville, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake), a grad student, and junior Tirzah Spivey (Clifton Park, NY/Schenectady) took the victory in number one doubles, as well as each taking victories in their singles matches to pace RSC to their second consecutive win
RSC is back in action tomorrow against Alfred. Start time at Myers Middle School is set for 1:00 PM.
Gator Bites: The Gators have six newcomers and six returnees on this year's roster…Junior Tirzah Spivey (Clifton Park, NY/Schenectady), a two-time All-Empire 8 Conference singles selection, Emma Nuzzi (Glenville, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake), a grad student, and senior Emma Vander Baan (Barre, MA/Quabbin Regional) headline the returning players…Spivey finished 5-1 at first singles in league play last season…Freshman Marian Aguirre (Plano, TX/Plano) was selected the Empire 8 Conference Player of the Week for the period ending Sunday, September 8…The rookie started her collegiate career by going 4-0 across singles and doubles, including a 24-1 singles ledger.
