LATHAM, N.Y. – In Empire 8 Conference action, Russell Sage College Women's Tennis cruised past visiting SUNY Brockport 8-1 this afternoon at Tri-City Fitness.
Freshman Marian Aguirre (Plano, TX/Plano) picked up a 6-1, 6-0 victory at number one singles. Junior Tirzah Spivey (Clifton Park, NY/Schenectady) won the number two singles match 6-0, 6-0, with Emma Nuzzi (Glenville, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake), a grad student, taking number three singles 6-1, 6-2.
The Gators (1-1/1-0 E8) swept the doubles portion of the Saturday matinee, and secured two other singles triumphs via retirement.
RSC is back on the court on Friday afternoon at SUNY Purchase. The non-conference action is slated to commence at 3:00 PM.
Gator Bites: The Gators have six newcomers and six returnees on this year's roster…Spivey, a two-time All-Empire 8 Conference singles selection, Nuzzi, and senior Emma Vander Baan (Barre, MA/Quabbin Regional) headline the returning players…Spivey finished 5-1 at first singles in league play last season...Aguirre and Spivey both went a combined 4-0 this week...Aguirre is currently 24-1 in singles play.
