Big Second Quarter Propels Elmira to Victory Over Gators

ELMIRA, N.Y. – Elmira College used a 22-9 second quarter to come away with the Empire 8 Conference victory over Russell Sage College Women's Basketball this afternoon 57-45.

The Gators had four players with five or more points in the conference action.

Sophomore guard Layla Acosta (Haines City, FL/Haines City) produced her second highest scoring game of the season with 25 points. Acosta added four steals, two rebounds, and two assists to her game-high 25. 

Sophomore forward Aniyah Kelley (New Castle, DE/William Penn), junior guard Olivia Huneau (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes), and junior guard Angelina Schaefer (Latham, NY/Shaker), scored seven, six, and five points respectively.

Junior guard Gwen Eichen (Moriah, NY/Moriah Central) filled the statsheet, reeling in six rebounds, distributing two assists, and registering two steals.

Junior forward Nevaeh Winston led the way for Elmira (10-11/5-9 E8) with 15 points, while adding six rebounds and two steals.

The Soaring Eagles got 12 points from senior guard Alleney Klunk, nine points from junior guard Laura Bogota, and 10 rebounds from junior guard Taylor Jung.

Looking ahead, RSC (6-18/4-11 E8) finishes the 2024 campaign with a matchup against Houghton next Saturday. Eichen will be recognized before the matinee as part of the "Senior Day" ceremony.
