COBLESKILL, N.Y. – Russell Sage College took both ends of this afternoon's non-conference doubleheader at SUNY Cobleskill. The Gators cruised in the opener 10-0 (five innings) and held off the Fighting Tigers 4-3 in the second game.
The trio of senior outfielder Madalyn Ring (Gansevoort, NY/South Glens Falls), sophomore outfielder Bella Julian (Cicero, NY/Cicero North-Syracuse), and freshman infielder Jade Maille (South Glens Falls, NY/South Glens Falls) keyed the RSC offense in the pair of road wins. Julian went 6-for-8 with four runs scored, Ring was 5-for-7 with three runs scored and an RBI, while Maille tallied four hits in six at bats, to go along with two runs scored and two RBI.
Junior pitcher Leah Madore (Williamsville, VT/Brattleboro Union) tossed a combined eight shutout innings of one-hit ball to earn a pair of victories (3-3). The right-hander became just the second RSC pitcher to record 250 career strikeouts this afternoon, punching out nine SUNY Cobleskill batters. Madore now has 257 career strikeouts, just five away from becoming the program's career leader (Kelsey Newberg '13).
The Gators totaled 18 hits in the opener, with each batter having at least one. Julian was 3-for-4 with three runs scored, while Maille and Ring each went 3-for-3 with two runs scored. Madore allowed just one hit and one walk across five shutout innings.
Trailing 4-0 going to the bottom of the sixth in the nightcap, SUNY Cobleskill (5-8-1) put across a run in the sixth and two more in the seventh. Freshman pitcher Alina Ferguson (New Windsor, NY/Newburgh Free Academy) saved the Gator victory with the winning run at the plate.
Senior infielder Emma Anderson (Tolland, CT/Tolland) and Julian each went 3-for-4 in the second game.
The Gators (4-10), which snapped a ten-game losing streak, are scheduled to host a doubleheader vs. Saint John Fisher on Friday afternoon .
