LEESBURG, Fla. – Russell Sage College softball began their season in Florida on Monday with a split doubleheader sweep against Skidmore and St. Mary's Indiana.
The Gators (2-0) started the day off with a five-inning mercy over capital region rival Skidmore 15-3.
Junior infielder Amber Banas (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties) and freshman infielder Ava Heffner (Valatie, NY/Ichabod Crane) led the way for RSC, who each registered three-hit days and drove in three runs apiece.
Sophomore infielder Annalise Tyler (Schenectady, NY/Schalmont), sophomore outfielder Bella Julian (Cicero, NY/Cicero North-Syracuse), and freshman infielder Jade Maille (South Glens Falls, NY/South Glens Falls) all tallied a pair of hits and a pair of runs batted in in the run-rule victory.
Junior pitcher Leah Madore (Williamsville, VT/Brattleboro Union) earned her first pitching win of the season, punching out eight batters over her five innings of work.
Game two was a much lower scoring affair, but strong pitching led to the Gators pulling out their second win in as many opportunities.
Junior pitcher Bailey Catlin (Petersburg, NY/Berlin/Saint Rose) threw a complete game and punched out six while only giving up one run.
Six different Gators found their way into the hit column and four drove in a run in the victory, headlined by a fourth inning RBI triple by sophomore outfielder Emily O'Keefe (Albany, NY/Albany).
Looking ahead, RSC is back in action tomorrow with a split doubleheader against St. Catherine and Meredith.
