Skyline Conference Honors Sage Men's Soccer Players

New York, NY ---The Sage Colleges placed two players on the 2011 Skyline Conference Men's Soccer All-Star First Team, while another was placed on the second team for their outstanding play over the course of the season. Becoming Sage's first players to earn all-conference men's soccer all-stars were sophomore midfielder Wesley Finch (Newburgh, NY/Newburgh Free Academy) and Evan Southworth (Newburgh, NY/Newburgh Free Academy), while sophomore defender Nick Mauro (Bristol, CT/Bristol Central) earned his second-straight selection to the all-star second team.

Finch led Sage this fall with his program-best 12 goals, 30 points, and five game-winning goals. Finch is on target to become the program's 50 point scorer as he has 37 points on 15 goals with seven assists and six career game-winners.  

Southworth connected for a personal-best six goals with two assists for 14 points this season in 20 games played. A second-team honoree a year ago, Southworth has now played in 36 games with 20 points on eight goals and four assists.

Mauro, a second-team honoree as a rookie, helped anchor the Gators' defense as they had had six shutouts and a 1.53 goals against average. He added four goals and an assist from his defensive position and was part of an impressive scoring unit as well. With the release of the most recent NCAA Div. 3 statistical rankings on Nov. 7, Sage's team ranks 23rd in total goals (56), 21st in scoring offense (2.84 gpg), 38th in assists per game (2.0) and 38th in total assists (39).
