AUBURNDALE, Fla. – Russell Sage College baseball battled with #2 ranked Salve Regina as they continued their Spring Break trip in Florida, falling to the Seahawks 3-1.
The Gators (4-4) got a second good performance in as many starts from Joe Degroot (Clay, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse), a grad student, who twirled eight innings of three-run ball punching out five opposing batters.
RSC's lone run came from junior infielder Anthony Rizzo (Latham, NY/Shaker/HVCC) in the third inning who reached base on a single, stole second, and eventually crossed home on a passed ball.
Three others found themselves in the hit column, as senior outfielder Evan Grimes (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa), senior outfielder Leandro Guzman (New Britain, CT/New Britain), and junior catcher Colin Casey (Marlboro, NY/Marlboro/Saint Rose) all registered singles.
Russell Sage is back in action tomorrow with a doubleheader against Gordon.
