Troy, NY- The Sage Colleges' women's tennis team hosted the Raptors of Bard College on Sunday afternoon in a non-conference match. The Gators tallied a 7-2 win to improve to 8-2 overall, while Bard falls to 2-3.
Sage held a 3-0 lead after doubles as the pair of sophomore Sammantha Montague (Glenville, NY/Scotia-Glenville) and sophomore Rebecca Jackson (Saugerties, NY/John A. Coleman) took the match at first doubles, 8-1, elevating their season mark to 5-5 together.
At second doubles, sophomore Abbey Clobridge (West Sand Lake, NY/Averill Park) and senior, Shanessa Mendoza (North Plainfield, NJ/North Plainfield) added the 8-6 victory, while twin sister Shanice Mendoza (North Plainfield, NJ/North Plainfield) and senior Lindsey Tolman (Little Falls, NY/Little Falls) added an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles. Tolman and Shanice Mendoza are an impressive 7-1 together this fall.
Bard took first singles and third singles as Katie Esposito defeated Montague, 6-4, 6-1 and Lily Zacharias added a win in three sets over Shanessa Mendoza.
Clobridge, Jackson, and senior Samantha Dibbell (Hunter, NY/Tannersville Central) capped their singles play with wins to lead the Gators to their eighth win on the season.
Now in his fourth season at Sage, Sunday's win marks the most in a season for Sage Head Women's Tennis Coach Tom Fashouer as his 2017 lineup has now posted eight wins after a pair of seven-win seasons in both 2017 and 2014.
Next up for the Gators, they will host Nazareth College on Sept. 30 in a 1 p.m. Empire 8 match next Saturday.
