Troy, NY- The Sage Colleges' women's tennis team hosted the Spartans of Castleton University on Sunday afternoon in a non-conference match. The Gators posted the convincing 8-1 win to extend their win streak to three matches and improve to 5-1 on the year. Castleton drops to 4-4.
The Gators a 3-0 lead after doubles as they swept the Spartans. Winning at first doubles was the pair of sophomores Sammantha Montague (Glenville, NY/Scotia-Glenville) and Rebecca Jackson (Saugerties, NY/John A. Coleman) as they earned a tight 8-6 victory. Sage added wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles as sophomore Abbey Clobridge (West Sand Lake, NY/Averill Park) and senior Shanessa Mendoza (North Plainfield, NJ/North Plainfield) added a win at the No. 2 spot on the ladder and seniors Lindsey Tolman (Little Falls, NY/Little Falls) and Shanice Mendoza (North Plainfield, NJ/North Plainfield) at third doubles.
Sage collected a win at No. 1 singles from sophomore Sammantha Montague (Glenville, NY/Scotia-Glenville) as she had a convincing 6-2, 6-0 win. Montague is now 6-0 at No. 1 singles for the Gators, while Shanice Mendoza and Tolman are a perfect 5-0 together in doubles on the season.
Next up for the Gators, they will host Hartwick College in an Empire 8 match on September 19 at 4 p.m. at Prospect Park as they look to extend their win streak to four matches.
