Albany, NY--  The Sage Colleges' women's lacrosse team hosted the Mariners of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy on Saturday afternoon in the team's 2018 home opener. Kings Point posted the 17-1 win to improve to 3-1, while Sage falls to 0-2.

USMMA led 11-1 at the half and was paced by the play of junior Meredith Willard (Portland, ME/Cheverus) as she poured in seven goals with four assists. On the season, she now has 10 goals with four assists. Joining her in the scoring output on Saturday was junior midfielder Jessica Reilly (Sayville, NY/Sayville) with her five goals, giving her a team-best 17 goals and 19 points.  

Sage's goal was collected by senior attacker Torri Sperl (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties) on a pass from senior midfielder Adriana Spucches (Saugerties, NY/Red Hook) at 14:53 to break up the scoring run by Kings Points. Sperl is now seventh in points with 43 career points on 41 goals and two assists.

Senior Nikki Pedone (Ballston Lake, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) added four ground ball pickups with three caused turnovers, while graduate performer Savannah Mason (Wynantskill, NY/Averill Park) added two draws with two ground ball pickups and a pair of caused turnovers.

In goal for Sage, rookie goalie Marina Azab (Niskayana, NY/Niskayuna) made the start, but allowed seven goals with four saves in her 15:35 in net. Junior Jenna Cislak (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington) came in the game and collected seven saves with 10 goals allowed in her 44:25 in goal.

King's Point's junior goalie Hannah Gizzi (Finksburg, MD/McDonough School) collected the complete game win with her five saves with one goal allowed in 60 minutes of work.

The Gators are in action again on March 20 travelling to Elms College for a 6 p.m. non-conference match, while U.S. Merchant Marine Academy hosts U.S. Coast Guard on March 20 a t 7.p.m.
