Gators drop opener, 86-82 to Mt. Ida

Norton. MA—The Sage Colleges' men's basketball team opened the 2017-2018 season on Friday in the Wheaton College (MA) Tip Off Tournament taking on the Mustangs of Mt. Ida College. After holding a 43-42 lead at the break, Sage fell in the finals seconds, 86-82.

Leading the way for the Gators was sophomore forward Anthony Mitchell (Bronx, NY/Salesian) poured in a career-high with a double-double as he tallied 14 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore Isaiah Scurry (Albany, NY/Albany) also had a career-best effort on opening night with his 16 points, six rebounds, and four assists.

Junior Kevin Lenehan (Delanson, NY/Duanesburg) added a double-double as well in his Sage debut after adding 13 points with 10 boards and three blocks. He had an impressive 9-12 effort from the line and added seven defensive boards. Junior forward Chris Kidd (Manhattan, NY/Beacon) picked up 13 points with five rebounds in his Sage debut, while sophomore guard Darius Denmark (Orlando, FL/Evans) added 12 points with four assists, three rebounds and two steals in the contest.

Sage is back in action in the consolation game on Saturday at 1 p.m. against Rhode Island College in the consolation game.
