SAGE WOMEN'S TENNIS TEAM COLLECTS 3RD STRAIGHT WIN AS THEY DOWN UTICA, 6-3
Utica, NY--- The Sage Colleges' women's tennis team travelled to play Utica College on Saturday afternoon and posted a 6-3 win to collect the Gators' third straight win. Now 6-5 overall, Sage topped the Pioneers as they fall to 3-10 on the season.
Sage took a 2-1 lead after doubles as they won at No. 1 doubles with the performance of rookies Sammantha Montague (Glenville, NY/Glenville-Scotia) and Abbey Clobridge (West Sand Lake, NY/Averill Park). They topped Julianne Pieros and Monica Johnson, 8-2 improving to 4-7 with one another this fall.
At second doubles, Sage's graduate performer Melissa Estremera (Millbrook, NY/Millbrook) teamed with junior Shanessa Mendoza (North Plainfield, NJ/North Plainfield) for the 8-2 win over Sara Gribanof and Ana Fitzpatrick. The Sage pair is now 5-4 on the year with one another.
In singles action, Montague downed Pieros, 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1, while Clobridge earned a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles over Johnson. Sophomore Emily Schultz (Wynantskill, NY/Averill Park) earned a win at No. 4 singles, beating her opponent, Fitzpatrick, 6-1, 6-2. Rookie Rebecca Jackson (Saugerties, NY/John A. Coleman) posted a victory at sixth singles, beating Shannon Fillmore, 6-0, 6-1. Jackson is now 2-0 on the year for the Gators.
Sage is back in action again on October 16 for the squad's final Skyline Conference regular-season match at Purchase College with a noon start and a spot in the 2016 Skyline Conference tournament on the line.
