Brooklyn, NY- The Sage Colleges' women's basketball team travelled to face the Bears of St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn on Saturday afternoon in a league match-up. Sage's senior guard Frankie Pearson (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls Central) added a career-best 25 points and nine assists in leading the Gators to the 78-50 victory. Sage improves to 10-5 overall and 6-2 in the Skyline, while watching their win streak grow to four games as well. SCJ-Brooklyn drops to 4-9 overall and 2-5 in the conference.
Sage led 50-21 at the half and never looked back as they posted the convincing league victory. Pearson shot 9-16 from the floor with her own best mark of seven three-pointer, which also ties the program's best three-point single-game record as well. Sage's three-point field goal mark has now been equaled on four separate occasions, while Pearson's scoring output on Saturday bettered her previous high of 23 points from January, 29, 2014 when the Gators faced ACPHS.
Pearson was joined in double-digit scoring by sophomore guard Emily Parslow (Fonda, NY/Fonda-Fultonville) and junior forward Genevieve Schoff (Little Falls, NY/Little Falls) as they poured in 15 and 14 points, Parslow added five assists and two steals, while Schoff hauled in 12 rebounds to mark her seventh double-double of the year.
As a team, Sage racked up 13 three-point baskets which ranks No. 2 all-time for a single-game behind the 14 made against Hilbert College in 2010.
After Saturday's strong performance by both Schoff and Pearson, Sage's women's basketball record book continues to reflect their successes. Pearson surpassed the 900 career point plateau and now has 920 points, which stands No. 6 all-time. She is poised to become the fifth player in Sage women's basketball history to earn her 1,000th career point. Pearson has now added a program-leading 166 career three-pointers, while also moving to the No. 4 spot in career games played with 94. Pearson is also among the program's Top 10 in career steals, assists, and blocked shots.
Schoff ranks ninth at Sage in scoring with her 842 points, while moving to No. 5 in career rebounds as she moved ahead of Chelsea Martin (535, 2010-2104) as she has 540 rebounds. She is also now tied for No. 2 in career blocks with Krystyn Knockwood (76, 2013-2016), while ranking No. 2 as well with her 265 career made free throws.
Sage is back in action on January 17 hosting Skyline Conference opponent Purchase College in a 6 p.m. match-up at Kahl Gym.
