Sage Drops Two at Mount Saint Mary

NEWBURGH, NY – Gator softball went down 10-2 and 4-2 Sunday afternoon at Mount Saint Mary, the defending Skyline Champions.

Sage (10-12, 7-3 Skyline) was led at the plate by junior Alexa Silk (Freehold, NY/Greenville) with three hits and one run. Kiersten Duncan (Millerton, NY/Taconic Hills) finished the day with two RBI's and a double.

In game one, Mount Saint Mary (14-8. 9-1 Skyline) went up 4-0 in the bottom of the third. The Gators responded in the top of the fourth when Jessica Adams (Nassau, NY/Columbia) and Katy Rimawi (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) scored on a Duncan double to left field line.

With the Knights up 4-2, Mount Saint Mary added six runs in the fifth and sixth innings to force an early end with a 10-2 final score.

Mount Saint Mary's Cindy Connoly (6-3) was credited with the complete game win with four strikeouts. Allison Ford (Mechanicville, NY/Mechanicville) (7-5) picked up the loss with three strikeouts.

The Gators got off a quick start in game two when Silk scored on a Rimawi RBI. Mount Saint Mary answered at the bottom of the inning with two runs to go up 2-1.

Sage tied the game in the top of the fourth when Rimawi scored on an Adams single up the middle. In the bottom of the fifth, the Knights went up 3-2 when Shannon Sommer scored wild pitch. Mount Saint Mary added their fourth and final run in the bottom of the sixth when Lang scored on an Amanda Almodovar single to center field.

Bridget Bennet (6-3) pitched a complete, eight strikeout game for the win while Amy Hart (St. Johnsville, NY/Little Falls) (3-7) gave up three earned runs with seven strikeouts.

After today's performance, Silk tied the single-season stolen base record with 20 on the season. The junior also moved into ninth place in career hits, passing Meredith Patik with 113.

Currently, St. Joseph's – Long Island tops the Skyline with a perfect 9-0 record while Mount Saint Mary is in second at 9-1. Sage sits at third with a 7-3 record followed by Mount Saint Vincent at 4-2. Rounding out the top six are Farmingdale State and St. Joseph's – Brooklyn with 6-4 and 3-5 records, respectively.

Sage takes a break from conference play on Wed., Apr. 12 as the Gators travel to Westfield State. The first pitch is set to be thrown at 3:30 p.m.
