BRONX, NY – Freshmen Samantha Montague (Glenville, NY/Scotia-Glenville) and Brittany Brooks (North Bangor, NY/Salmon River Central) both hit their first collegiate home runs in a sweep over Yeshiva Sunday night. Sage took game one from the Maccabees 17-0 and the second one 11-0.
In game one, Sage (4-10, 3-1 Skyline) went up 8-0 in the top of the first inning. The Gators added four more runs in the top of the second to go up 12-0. In the next inning, Sage added another two runs on Brooks' homerun to left center field.
In the bottom of the third, Yeshiva (2-6, 2-2 Skyline) got their first hit of the game when Ellie Alweis singled to right field. Sage responded in the top of the fourth when Jessica Adams (Nassau, NY/Columbia) scored on a Kiersten Duncan (Millerton, NY/Taconic Hills) single up the middle to go up 16-0. In the top of the fifth, Montague homered to left center field to extend the lead to 17-0.
Allison Ford (Mechanicville, NY/Mechanicville) (4-4) was credited with the win on a three strikeout effort while Bailey Hasemann (Granville, NY/Hartford) also added three strikeouts. Alweis (1-3) picked up the loss.
Sage was led on offense by Montague (3-3, four RBI's, four runs), Brooks (2-3, three RBI's, two runs), Duncan (2-3, two runs, RBI), Destiny Wierzbicki (Albany, NY/Troy) (1-2, three runs), Katy Rimawi (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) (2-2, two RBI's, run) and Alexa Silk (Freehold, NY/Greenville) (0-0, two RBI's, two runs).
In game two, Sage went up in the early when Silk and Ford scored on an Adams single down the right field line. Rimawi put the Gators up 3-0 on a Duncan RBI. The Gators added another four runs in the second inning to go up 7-0.
Yeshiva got its first hit of the game when Liat Wasserman singled up the middle, but she was left stranded.
Sage added another four runs in the top of the third to extend their lead to 11-0, and win the game.
Ford was credited with the win on a four strikeout effort with Hasemann adding four strikeouts as well. Samantha Cohen picked up the loss on five complete innings.
The Gators were led on offense by Adams (3-4, four RBI's, two runs), Ford (2-2, two RBI's, two runs, Silk (1-3, three runs), Duncan (1-2, two RBI's) and Kristen Silk (Freehold, NY/Greenville) (2-3, RBI).
With today's sweep, Sage is now in third in the Skyline. Currently leading the conference are Mount Saint Mary and St. Joseph's – Long Island at 2-0.
The Gators are set to play St. Joseph's – Long Island in their home opener Sat., Apr. 1 at 1 p.m.
