Albany, NY—The Sage Colleges' men's basketball team hosted the Dolphins of the College of Mt. St. Vincent on Tuesday night in a Skyline Conference match-up. Sage rallied to post a 63-61 win to improve to 8-7 overall and 4-2 in the league. CMSV drops to 3-13 overall and 1-6 in the league.
Senior forward Rob Mills (Newburgh, NY/Newburgh Free Academy) tallied what would be the game winning shot as he hit a three-pointer at 0:36 to give the Gators a 62-61 lead and junior Jordan Devaughn (Jacksonville, FL/Flora McDonald Academy) connected for one of two free throws in the final two seconds for the final Sage score in the victory.
CMSV held a 36-31 lead at the intermission as junior guard Matthew Sowah (Staten Island, NY/McKee), rookie guards Austin Mick (Brunswick, OH/Brunswick) and David Collins (Bronx, NY/Mount Saint Michael Academy) all had eight first half points for the Dolphins. Junior forward Andrew Curiel (Bronx, NY/Monsignor Scanlan) added nine boards in the first half as the team held a commanding 28-14 lead on the boards over the Gators.
Sage senior forward Marcus Patterson (Bronx, NY/Mount Saint Michael Academy) added 15 first half points after hitting 6-of-7 shots from the floor with a 2-2 effort from the line. Paterson finished with 24 points with seven rebounds before fouling out with 1:18 left in the second half. He shot 8-13 from the floor and was a perfect 6-6 from the line. Patterson now has 813 career points with 470 rebounds, and 34 blocks in 90 career games played. He ranks sixth in career scoring, sixth in rebounding, sixth in blocked shots as well as sixth in games played.
Mills finished with 10 points and made 2 of 4 shots from three-point range, while junior Barceem Dukes (Gloversville, NY/Gloversville) hauled in six points with seven rebounds.
CMSV's Curiel finished with 10 points, 11 rebounds with two assists and a blocked shot. Senior Myron Hickman (Bronx, NY/St. Raymond HS for Boys) led the team with 15 points off the bench and pulled down seven boards. Mick finished with 13 points for the Dolphins as they held a commanding 47 to 38 edge on the boards.
Sage is back in action on January 19 visiting Sarah Lawrence College in a 7:30 p.m. Skyline Conference contest. The College of Mt. St. Vincent host Purchase College in a 7 p.m. Skyline Conference contest on January 20.
