Ackerman advances to Day Two of ITA Singles Draw

Geneva, NY – The 2014 ITA Small College Northeast Regional Championships opened on Saturday on the campus of William Smith College (Geneva, NY) on Saturday. Seeded No. 6, Sage's senior co-captain Kirsten Ackerman (Guilderland, NY/Guilderland) advanced to the third round of singles on Sunday in the three-day tournament.

Ackerman, who was a quarterfinalist a year ago in the 2013 Singles Tournament, went 2-0 on Saturday in singles play. She opened with a 6-0, 6-4 win over Emily Walsh of the University of Scranton. She bested the University of Rochester's Christina Ho, 7-6 (7-3), 6-1.  Ackerman is now 10-1 in singles this fall is now 40-4 on her singles career at Sage.  On Sunday, she opens the day facing Skidmore's No. 12 seeded Brianna Greene in the quarterfinals. After Saturday's singles and doubles action, Ackerman is now 72-14 on her career at Sage.

Also in the singles, bracket, Sage's sophomore Erin Duffy (Castleton, NY/Maple Hill) faced RPI's No. 14 seeded Casey Olsen but fell, 6-0, 6-0. In the consolation bracket she met Union's Natalia Pronchick, but fell 8-1 ending her singles play for the tournament.

In doubles, Duffy and Ackerman matched up against Nicole Mahaffey and Julia Frattaroli of the University of Scranton but fell 8-5. In the consolation bracket they faced Vassar's Shayna Becker and Kate Christenesen, 8-3 and were eliminated from the doubles bracket.
