Mustangs spoil Gators' E8 opener on Saturday

 

Albany, NY –  Russell Sage College's women's lacrosse team hosted the Mustangs of Medaille University on Saturday afternoon in the Empire 8 opener for both teams at ACP Stadium. RSC had a strong second quarter to trail 10-6 at the half, but the Mustangs got six goals from a pair of players as they triumphed 20-8. Medaille is now 6-1 overall and 1-0 in the E8, while RSC is now 2-4 and 0-1 in the league.

For the Gators, junior attacker Grace Hines (Schenectady, NY/Guilderland) led the way with her five  goals and two assists. Hines leads the team with her 36 points on 27 goals with eight assists. Hines now has 89 career points at RSC, which is third best as she has 75 goals (fourth best) with 14 assists.   

RSC's junior midfielder Ashley Hearn (Waterloo, NY/Waterloo) paced the Gators with six ground balls with a pair of caused turnovers and had three points on a goal with two assists.

Medaille's sophomore midfielders Katelynn Deveans (Clinton, NY/Clinton) and Cameron Briggs (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca East) racked up eight points each as they both had six goals and two assists to lead Medaille. Briggs has a team-best 41 points this season on 31 goals with 10 assists.

Sophomore goalie Madalyn Walsh (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) made six saves in the match and is now 2-4 in the net.

Looking ahead, the Gators will make a trip to Bard College on March 29 for a 6 p.m. non-conference match.
