Sage's lacrosse team drops heartbreaker to Purchase, 9-7

Albany, NY---The Sage Colleges women's lacrosse team hosted the Panthers of Purchase College on Wednesday night at John Fallon Field. Purchase posted a 9-7 win to improve to 4-2 overall and 1-2 in the Skyline. Sage drops to 1-6 overall and 0-3 in the league.

Purchase led 5-2 at the break and Sage tied the game at the 6-6 at the 20:16 mark in the second half as rookie Monica Koralus (Verbank, NY/Milbrook) found the net. Sage took a 7-6 lead as sophomore midfielder Kimberlee Carr (Colonie, NY/Colonie Central) connected for a free position goal at the 18:20.

Purchase tied the game with a goal at 18:03 from sophomore Annette Elson (Las Vegas, NV) and took the lead for good when senior LeiAnna Frazier (Brooklyn, NY/High School of Arts and Design) at 8:56. Senior Rebecca Small (South Glastonbury, CT/Glastonbury) added an insurance goal with her tally at 3:12.

For the game, Carr tallied four goals and now leads the Gators with her 22 goals and 22 points. Koralus stands second in the scoring race with her nine goals and three assists for 12 points.

Purchase's Elson led her team with three goals, while six different players each scored once.

For the Gators, rookie goalie Jackie St. Pierre (Averill Park, NY/Averill Park) took the loss after making 13 saves on the action on a 25 shots faced with 9 goals allowed. Purchase's senior Jess Lindsay (Rochester, NY/Irondequoit) added 11 saves in earning the win.

Sage returns to action on April 5 travelling to Maritime College for a 1 p.m. Skyline Conference game. Purchase is back in action on April 5 hosting SUNY-Old Westbury ay noon.
